Symptoms

What it looks like from the equipment side

These are the faults that most often turn out to be the board. None of them prove it — that is what the diagnosis is for.

  • Temperature drifts, or reads nothing like the actual cavity
  • Element or burner will not fire
  • Display dead, or segments missing
  • Buttons that need pressing hard, or do nothing
  • Cycle stalls partway and will not advance
  • Error code that returns immediately after clearing

Failure modes

What actually fails, and why

Common to this class of board. The cause matters as much as the fault — a board replaced into the condition that killed it fails again.

Grease ingress

Aerosolised cooking oil gets everywhere, then bakes onto the board. It is conductive enough once carbonised to leak signal across high-impedance inputs, which shows up as drifting temperature readings.

Triac and element driver failure

Elements are switched thousands of times. Drivers fail short — which leaves an element on with the board commanding it off — or open, which leaves it cold. The short failure is the dangerous one.

Thermocouple and RTD input damage

A shorted probe, or a probe wire chafed against a hot surface, takes the input circuit with it. The board then reads a plausible but wrong temperature, which is worse than reading nothing.

Heat-aged capacitors

A board mounted near an oven cavity sees ambient temperatures its capacitors were never specified for. They dry out years early.

Membrane and connector failure

Ribbon connectors and membrane tails degrade with heat and repeated flexing. Often the board is fine and the interface is not — worth knowing before buying a board.

Book it in first. An RMA number comes back the same business day, and the board arrives with the paperwork already attached to it.

Before you pull it

  • Photograph the board in place, connectors attached. It is the single most useful thing you can send.
  • Note the equipment make and model, and the number printed on the board itself.
  • Write down what it was doing when it failed — intermittent, heat-related, or after a storm all change what gets tested first.
  • Pack it in an anti-static bag. Bubble wrap alone is not enough.

Is a repaired board safe on equipment that heats?

Every repair is bench-tested with the outputs switching real loads before it ships, and it carries a 90-day warranty.

Where a driver failed short — element stuck on — that failure mode is specifically checked before the board goes back, because it is the one that matters.

The board is covered in grease. Send it anyway?

Yes. Cleaning is part of the job and often a large part of the repair.

Do not try to clean it first. Solvent driven under a component or into a connector causes damage that was not there when it came out of the equipment.

How fast can I get it back? We are down.

Standard bench turnaround is 1–3 business days, plus transit each way.

Rush turnaround is available at 50% over the repair price. If the kitchen is down, say so on the intake form and ship overnight — the bench time is the part that gets compressed.
